ah no problem, was looking for bigger then that, as they look big in the pics.
great build tho, is it all on the road now?
Bigger as in wheel size itself or bigger tyres in 15inch?

Not just yet. I’ve got a few small things to do to get on the road. Finish buffing one side, put a couple of rivets in, fit the stereo which should be here tomorrow, top up all fluids and a few other bits. Should hopefully be done this week.

I’m not sure when it will actually be finished though, if ever, I’ll get it on the road and then start on some other bits like a good service, sound deadening, carpeting, rear door card, headlining and whatever else I find I can do ;).

I should hopefully get some good pictures of it by the weekend and get the on here

Cheers

Finished polishing the passenger side the other night and I’m planning to go up tomorrow and do some more of the final bits

So I sold my mud tyres and bought some 265/70/15 all terrain tyres for the alloys but I’m disappointed with the overall look. A few people have said it’s just because I’ve gone from such a big tyre to a more sensible one for the road....

I can’t really justify selling these and buying some bigger at the moment so I think I’ll run it as it is and keep a look out for 16 inch alloys and tyres in a few months. I like the look of the challenger wheels so hopefully will get some of them.

I have a few small problems, Speedo doesn’t work and the temp gauge doesn’t work along with an ever so slight grinding noise coming from the gearbox/transfer box at certain rpm. So next week I think I’ll get them issues sorted and get some servicing done on it, oil, filters, flush the coolant and try a new temperature sender and I’ve bought myself a new alternator belt and power steering belt whilst I’m on with it. There’s an endless list of things I want to do...

Finish wiring rear work lights
Sound proof and carpet the rear
Sort some form of headlining
Interior lighting
Some rubber mats for the front and rear
Rear wiring covers (if anyone has a drivers side one for sale)
Security (pedal lock, immobiliser switch?) - what security would people recommend?
Front spot lights
Alpine windows

...To name just a few

Cheers Ash

Edit... forgot to mention I’ve bought myself a Rear step so I’ll get that fit and the tow bar electrics wired up

100% pedal lock, Disklok too and top it off with a very well concealed GPS tracker with a stand alone power source.

Sorry to say, I just don't like the wheel color, nothing stand outish about them, just black rims with black tyres, just as well be 8 spoke Weller's under them arches, didn't like em with the big fat muds either so its not tyre discrimination.

Yeah they’re the kind of things I had in mind. People have mentioned making their own pedal lock is straight forward and saves quite a bit of money?

I’ve thought about painting them grey but I’m unsure, grey, black or silver are the only real options and I don’t think the black does them any favours either. It also makes them look smaller. One thing I want to change is the wheels but for the time being they have to stay. I preferred them with the bigger tyres on though.

Looks amazing mate. Well jealous LOL

Haha cheers!

I’ve been fitting the NAS rear step today and it’s been a bit of a pain. The two bolts that go where the original tow bar would be are useless, don’t have nuts that go on the back so don’t understand how they work. The bolts that go through the cross member on both sides aren’t long enough to go all the way though and you can’t get inbetween to put a nut inside. And it’s come with brackets for a 110 and a 90 that go underneath but the 90 ones don’t go anywhere near the chassis like they’re supposed to, I don’t know if it’s anything to do with mine being a 90 and not a defender? The 110 Brackets go to the right place I think but sits inbetween two holes so I might have to drill a new hole tomorrow. I got a bit fed up towards the end

No idea on the NAS step, I'm a Disco guy, but a nice Satin sheen over a metalic silver is the way to on the rims, don't fret over the tyres, I actually like them on it, I could just picture the rims a nice metalic silver with some sort of shimmer effect.

I’m never keen on silver wheels but I think a satin clear over silver or a nice light grey could work.

I had the same dilemma when I did mine. I think it's the aggressive sidewalls of some tyre designs that gives the 'x' factor
In the end I went for Cooper STT Discoverer on sawtooths (sawteeth?) but tbh they're not too bad on tarmac at all
(Challenger style were my second option)

Yeah i agree, the aggressive look definitely makes them look better. I like the sawtooth style. They’d be my second choice. If it sticks around I’d be going for the challenger ones with a better tyre choice.

Nice 110, wheels look really well. Is it lifted?

On the NAS rear step they are so hit and miss on how they actually fit... I bought one (cant remember the make, but cost around £250) for my 110 the support brackets for the tow hitch where about 2cm out and the bolt was impossible to fit due to fuel tank being in the way... ended up having to use a load of washers lol

As for the crossmember bolts on the corners mine went all the way through the cross member and had a sort of "spacer" which sat inside the cross member the nut then sat on outside of the crossmember but underneath the landy if you see what I mean?

As for soundproofing, you seen the LizardSkin spray on stuff? I used it to coat my doors and bonnet came out cheaper than Dynamat and imo much better! Not to mention a doddle to apply!

I’ve managed to get it on now. The guy was adimant that the 90 Brackets supplied are the ones I use, but they came off the step at say 45 degrees and then there was nowhere to secure them on the chassis. He asked for pictures so I’ve sent them to him to see what magic he suggests. In the meantime I used the 110 brackets which had two bends in them, lined up to the chassis and just drilled a couple of holes where needed. It’s all secure and I’m confident it’s safe.

As for the corners, I can’t get to the back of the holes? There’s like a plate in the way so I wouldn’t be able to get a spacer in. I’ve got some longer bolts and used them. I’m happy :).

Never heard of the stuff, what is it like an aerosol? How does that work when dynamat or the fatmat is like a foam sheet?

Good! Well done.

Fatmat/dynamat is foam sheets its a butyl type of material with sound deadening properties.

LizardSkin is a spray on (compressor) gloop that has the same properties when dry. Its water soluable when wet so super easy to clean up as well. Best part is no cutting and fitting of the sheet, just mask and spray!! Gets in everywhere so overally has much better coverage, comes in ag about 1mm thick with two coats so also thinner than dynamat etx...

I’ll look into it. It’d be good for inside of the doors and stuff but I think I’ll just get some cheap closed cell foam on a roll to do inside the rear tub before I ply and carpet it.

Thats what I did on my old one, though honestly I would spray the whole tub with it! When I lined my old one with Fatmat it made the biggest difference, so worth doing.

Did you have a project thread for your 90? I remember seeing a picture of it but haven’t come across one.
