Are Puma seats better than TD5 ones?

l was looking to get some new seats for my 2005 TD5 CSW.
Looking on the Exmoor Trim site they do standard TD5 and Puma/TDCi. They also offer Puma/TDCi "premium" which have integrated head rests.

Will the Puma/TDCi seats be a worthwhile improvement over my TD5 ones?

You also see Puma seats on Ebay, presumably because people have upgraded to fancy bucket seats etc which l don't want.
I'd need to try and determine that they were not stolen though.

I'd want to see the Landy with the new seats fitted for instance. Or buy from a reputable breaker.

Any pumas I've looked at regardless of the mileage the seats don't look to last as well as the td5 ones.

Can't say how good puma seats are but went all through this when I did my rebuild on my 200 tdi csw and to be honest I thought the price for second hand seats were a bit much, so in the end I opted for exmoor retrim kit , I had the extended seat bases and new foams and covers for head rests and backs in G4 and I just had to have seat heaters for winter and they are well comfy .

All I can tell you is whatI like.

Traditional Defender seats, ie those in a Ninety through to a TD5. I like, very comfy IMO and will happily sit in them all day long.

My Uncle has a 2012 2.2 Puma pickup. The seats look nice, but I find them uncomftable after about half an hour. And I wouldn't want to travel a lot in them by comparison to the old seats.

He also has a 2016 2.2 Puma Hard Top with the posh upgraded seats. These look fantastic and are super comfy, but pricey.

A friend bought the premium fancy Exmoor trim seats. They were ok, although his conclusion was they are a lot of money for the quality. And not really worth it. So much so, he has now flogged then and bought a set of the fancy Land Rover seats that my Uncle has in his hard top. Which again are super comfy and look great.

You mean Puma Premium with the integrated head rests?
OK from the replies l may have to look at getting some of these.

I put rx8 seats in my tdi easy fit and very reasonably priced.
There are threads on here about them.

My 1988 110 station wagon has had Discovery 2 seats fitted front and back. I am not happy with the fitment of the back seats to be honest and am wanting to go back to a standard rear bench on safety grounds. I have bought a bench seat and now have to find the plate that goes in the floor for the seats to lock into but I am not sure if they have changed over the years or what year my new back seat is from. The front seats are comfy but a bit worn so I am looking at RX8 seats when some come up local. I would have Discovery seats again but I want leather as its easier to keep clean and dog hair free and they tend to be electric and I don't want to be wiring them up. I will also have to sort seatbelts out as the receivers are built into the current disco seats and I don't know if the buckles on the belts are the same as the disco or if they have been changed.

Out of interest, are Puma seats a direct replacement for the TD5 seats or will they require some kind of modification to the frame or runner metalwork?

They are a straight swap certainly for TD5 ones as l have tried a set since l posted this question last year.
The Puma seats seemed firmer so you sit a little higher, and maybe a little more lumbar support, but other than that there was not much in it.

I've recently bought a TD5 with very worn/split seat covers and collapsed foam and I'm trying to decide whether to refurbish or replace. Second hand Defender seats seem to me to be unrealistically priced but to use seats from another vehicle are definitely going to compromise access to the underseat components such as the battery.

I've got Exmoor Trim seats in mine, there is no way to get to the underseat compartments without a socket set, and this is how it came from the factory. I just fitted an anderson plug outside the battery box in case I need to charge / jump

I guess the Anderson plug is a possibility, I'll definitely factor that in as an option.

Hi, I fitted puma seats onto mud rails into my little na diesel, it has changed my driving experience, lumber support is better than the olde style seats, I was luck and got mine from duckworth landrover, complete with the the later seat rails, in my experience the exmoor trim direct replacement puma are ok or have you contacted Douglas Valley breakers in Wigan or Winwick Motors near Warrington?

Imo. Dont last as long but are a lot more comfy i was shocked when I sat in my mates puma!

My 18 year old factory fitted exmoor trim seats are more comfortable than the ones in my 2 year old merc and still look brand new!
Zero backache after a long journey

I got some Exmoor trim seats shortly after I bought the Land Rover in 2012. The seat cushion lifts out just the same as the standard seats so you can access the underseat components. I looked at various secondhand options but they seemed to be quite expensive for secondhand seats which were far from pristine, Plus I wanted the runners and seat back tilt mechanism as my original ones were in poor condition. So for not much more money i got the Exmoor version. Comfortable on 700 mile rides and still looking good six years later.

I think I have the same as mentioned in the above post - Exmoor trim with removable seat base with headrest on a single stalk. Not the prettiest in their stretchy cloth but certainly too comfortable to replace. Installed heated seat kit too which was well worth doing and very easy. Key thing in my mind is you must preserve the removeable seat pad - to do anything else would annoy immensely - best place for keeping the winch controller, tyre inflator etc.

The heated tdci ones are **** compared to standard ones on short journeys theyre ok on long ones your sore all day

I got black vinyl ones to match the paintwork. Leather seemed a little bit to lavish (and expensive). The design I've got doesn't seem to appear on the Exmoor website any longer but I like them because the seat bases have a ridge at either side to keep your bum in the right place. The original ones were a little too flat and my girlfriend used to slide from side to side as we went round corners.

If you're prepared to do that, then a whole lot more options open up. I have Scheelmann seats in my 110. Very comfortable (and wifey would complain if they weren't). Can sit there all day with no sore spots at all. No lifting seat squab, though.
Previous 110 we had I put leather Volvo seats in. Very comfy and 50 quid the pair from a breakers.
