Since im opening the boot 2 - 3 times a day now i wanted to make things a little easier. Started with some new spring loaded anti luce connectors but got me thinking about the whole carrier.

Anyone fitted a gas strut to aid opening and closing?

If no one has done it how would I go about fitting one?

not helpful to your situation but how does the side carrier work with the drop down tailgate?
I thought you had to convert to side opening tailgate (which is why i havent got a spare wheel carrier, as i like the drop down tailgate)

This is the only one that fits with the drop down afaik, its not perfect but it works. It is held in place by the antiluce latch which can work its way loose so ive fitted a carrabiner round it.

There are two types of hinged wheel carrier, the one might be better for drop tailgate is the wheel carrier frame is not fix to the rear door part but locks open and close. I was going to um and argh this type from Paddocks I think but they didnt have this model anymore.
