I borrowed a Transit at the weekend to go an Ikea run, 2004 plate, the clutch bite point is almost on the floor and it can be tough to get it into 1st gear.

If this was a LR I would be saying hydraulic issue and go from there but I know nothing about these so don't even know if they have a hydraulic system or cable, can anyone confirm and does anyone know if this is a common issue with a quick fix?

If I recall right that the one that has the starter motor under the clutch on the housing. The clutch wears and drops metallic crap into the starter - this could be a bigger issue than you think. Dual mass flywheel they don't like begin abused or having traffic light drag race starts....

As far as I know it's a hydraulic clutch - there should be a reservoir visible in the engine bay.

If you've just borrowed it give it back and worry not.
All I know about them is that they like to rust away.
This is a pic of my mates 2005 tranny just inside the rear door, that is the spring hanger barely attached btw.

Yes that looks much like his before he spent a fortune on welding! I have given it back but we were talking about the Van as he has just rebuilt it and he thought the gearbox maybe needed the oil doing aw 1st was a little difficult to get, but I said no I think the clutch is just not disengaging enough and it may be something clutch system related.

I was surprised at what a rust bucket a 2005 Transit was, I take it they used the chassis steel even LR knocked back!

I will tell him to check the fluid and have a look for leaks for starters then. Thanks.
