Hi there....I have just registered with this site!
My bro has a 1985 Series 3 and it keeps blowing it's head-gasket. I have heard that this is commonplace with Landies.......... :(

Just wondered if anyone could give us any advice or solutions to this problem please.

The oil is running hot and it is bubbling out of the rocker-cover. Would it be worth fitting a oil cooler?

Many thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

first it can't be a series 3 if it's 1985 model has it got leaf springs or coil springs.? what engine has it got fitted? repetitive HGF is usally caused by a warped head. (except on Gaylanders where it's a service item)

Thanks Red.....will get it checked over.....best stick to my Gaylander as you put it - LOL!! Cheers! :)

Other cause of repatative Head-Gasket failures is bad fitting or stretched head bolts.
Ensure the gasket is the right way up and the right way round, use new head bolts and follow the torquing procedure for tightening them up, doing them in stages to ensure the head seats evenly, then 'set' to the specified torque setting with a decent torque wrench.

Many thanks Teflon....that's extremely helpful. Will talk to the mechanic...... :)
Nooo, I am not a hairdresser Gertie, lol, but a musician. Sorry to disappoint you - but not even gay! Thanks for the welcome :)
