I have an engine management anomily with my TD5 (see my various posts) and the supplying dealer did not seem to want to sort it out. Eventually I wrote to Land Rover Customer Services, to see if Land Rover would take it back and sort it out. They would not, but directed me to another dealer. I contacted them, and after explaining what was wrong to their chief engineer, he said "that could take hours to sort out, and LAND ROVER WON'T PAY US FOR THAT SORT OF THING..." "We fix those kind of faults as a COURTESY to people who buy their vehicles from us..." (i.e not me)
However they did say that if I took the Defender in and there was an "obvious" fault with it they would sort it.
No wonder dealer's don't want to look at dodgy TD5 engine management systems if Land Rover won't pay them!

Step One

Make a list of every car magazine in UK, especially up-market ones.

Step Two

Write a letter explaining exactly what has happened, and how LOUSY the dealers have been, and LandRover's so-called "service" department.

Step 3.

Write to LandRover service (you may need to hunt for an address).

Dear Sirs,

TD5 Chassis no xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I enclose herewith a draft copy letter which I intend to send to the following publications inter alia in 14 days time.

I shall do so unless you reply to me within that time with some positive suggestions towards rectifying the faults other than at my expense of money, time or car-hire.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Signed.

This is not a threat. It's a simple courtesy letting them know what you are going to do. You have the right to let the world know what your experience has been, as long as it is truthful.

I did this some years ago for a friend, re his LandRover, a 13 month old 11,000 miles Disco that snapped a cambelt. The dealers said "tough ****, gonna cost YOU a couple of grand" but by the next day, after a few phone calls and 2 faxes to LandRover Warranty, the same dealer turned up with:
pick-up wagon to take away duff Disco.
Range Rover courtesy car.
Service manager saying "OOooohhh sorry ... unfortunate misunderstanding.."

Got Disco back a week later with new top of engine, from the head gasket up!

NO CHARGE.

Go for it.
