Bought my Freelander 2 in May 07, so the warranty ran out last year.
The car has done 70k.
In the last 3 months I have had to have oil leaks repaired, the drive shaft seal replaced, all the glow plugs replaced, and now one of the headlights is playing up. Nothing wrong with the bulbs to presume it is something more sinister.
Cost of the above repairs up to now, £1200.
This vehicle is the biggest piece of trash I have ever owned and seems to be designed, like a fridge, to die just the other side of the warranty.
Have I just been unlucky?
To cap it all some of the repairs have been undertaken by Guy Salmon, part of the Sytner Group, and I have had to take it back as the independent garage that replaced the glow plugs has discovered that the repairs that were done were defective!!
At the moment I am sorry to say that I would never buy Landrover again, which is a pity as I really enjoyed the first 3 years.

it says more about guy salmon than land rover m8:rolleyes:

Looks like I'll be back to japanese after this lot. I've got a jap bike and it has beaten the freelander hands down in terms of reliability and faults.

Are the defenders any better? My lad is doing his test in 2 weeks and is desperate for one!

I agree with gegs88, you cant begrudge a 70,000 mile motor a few oil leaks, a couple of seals and a set of glow plugs, just because you got reamed by the main dealer !.

If your handy with the spanners it may have only cost peanuts, failing that, considerably less if youd have used a good quality independant.

At the risk of repeating myself.

I had a VW T5 Transporter, that needed a new turbo, ( its second in 35k ), just out of warrenty, and that cost £ 1480.00 !!.

( by the way, my D2 TD5 is the biggest heap of **** !! ).

Del.
