Am I right to be annoyed

I wouldn't be annoyed, I'd not give them the privilege of it affecting me.

Doesn't sound much like a purist LR club to me anyway. How can it allow non LR vehicles but exclude the Freelander which definitely is a Land Rover.:confused:
 
Seems wrong to advertise a celebration of LR but not allow some models in. Is that defo right tho - doesn't say much in the ad.
 
I think you are reading what you want into the ad , or do you know something that is not written there?
As said by NB not much definitive info in the ad.

The CLROC only allow members with vehicles that are "equipped with a low ratio transfer box". When they first started they were just LR, but they have been accepting other makes for many years now. To me they are a generic 4WD club - not Land Rover. They are using the term "Land Rover" as many use the term "Jeep".

Within their club they snub Freelanders - which sort of ****es me off - but I got over that years ago!

Their association with this event though really ****es me off as they are continuing to not recognise Freelander - be it intentionally or ineptness they are organising a rally and totally ignoring a huge part of Land Rover's history. When I pointed this out (I don't know if you can see the comments), I got a reply..

"Christ, pick the butt hurt Freelander owner. I'm sure you would be welcomed under the green oval at the event."

So I'm not sure if I might be welcomed or me and my Freelander might be welcomed. Maybe I can come but the Freelander must be left in the public carpark outside. I can envisage getting there and there being sections for all the other Landies and and Freelanders who dare to show their faces have to park up in the paddock full of cow ****.
 
GG - it's being run by the Canterbury Rover Car Club and it looks like they've incorporated the LR event to their National Rally. I used to be a member and know their president and remember well their CCapt'n It most likely to be a park and display day for the public to wander around... Tempted to make a day trip myself and meet up with old Rover club members.
 
GG - did you expect better? It's their loss: less attendees, less fun. Don't be offended, just learn and walk away.
 
An auto Freelander copes well without low box, and if it’s an amateur event it’s unlikely to feature difficult bits that need it anyway. Silly.

You should either make a stand and turn up regardless, pointing out the green oval badge, or shun the event completely.
 
I wouldn't give them the satisfaction its there loss, you could always organise a land rover event but only freelanders are invited :p

One of the "brewing" guys where my daughter works has a Rover 90 and is a member of the CRCC. I don't know if he's seen me drop her off when her car's being serviced or has heard her talking about her strange dad's weekend habits - but before Christmas he printed off some application forms for the event and gave them to Frankie for me.

The whole thing is over 5 days and I'm interested in doing the whole thing, but 5 nights accommodation on top of the $75 registration fee and the $225 catering fee (for the first 3 days only?) makes it quite an expensive long weekend.

Fair doos to the Rover Car Club for organising this and if they put that wording together, fair enough it was a slip up - but its been banded around the CLROC for months and they haven't noticed it or bothered to correct it - primarily because they view Freelander as the 'black sheep' that should not get involved in family matters!
 
Not an uncommon attitude unfortunately. A new North American Landy magazine started last year. I subscribed, but in the first year there wasn't a mention of Freelanders
and just one picture sent in by an owner if I recall. I have renewed for this year as it was a well done mag, but if there is no Hippo content this year that's it for me!
 
I wouldn't let it bother you, though i can't see anywhere that it explicitly says no freelanders. Hardly a landy event if they're allowing other types of 4x4 there. You could drop them a message asking? Or just turn up. It does say " It will essentially be a birthday party for anything Land-Rover.".

Pretty sure you could argue that.
