I'm stripping this out tonight to replace. With the vacuum pump being attached, do I need to remove the pipe to that, or does it come off and can left hanging with pipe still attached? I have Rave but its on a disc and my PC is foobared.

This the one?

It's off. Disconnected the battery and Removed the fan. Removed the vacuum pump but had to cut the short oil drain off pipe (no 6). It had went hard and little or no flex in it. Also had to cut down an old 24mm spanner to remove the vacuum hose (no 9) as there isn't enough room for one full length. I disconnected the small hose (no 7) at the other end so I wasn't disturbing the seals at the pump.

Just to close this thread off. First...thanks again for the help.
I split the vacuum pump before I removed the alternator, which was probably not the best idea but I thought it would give me more room to get the alternator out. It makes it harder to free the bottom short oil return pipe due to the length of the splined shaft. The pipe is held in place by two spring release clips. A small flat screw driver in and twist and they pop open.

I also removed the belt tensioner which was no big deal, but maybe could have got the alternator out with it in situ. One thing I would encourage anyone doing this work to do. Make a shield to protect the Radiator from any accidental bumps. I cut one out of hard board the correct size to slip down the back of it. I'll stick it the garage for the next time I'm working in that area.

Yeah, but by the time you'll need it next, you'll have forgotten what that piece of hardboard was for and cut it up for something else, but you can't remember what that was either.

Been there, done that!
No....cause I've got big writing on it saying "Disco Rad" :p

But if I need a bit of hardboard at short notice it will get chopped up.:D
