alternator wireing p38

Hi every one just brought my first P38 mk2 2.5DSE none runner. need help with alternator wireing last owner has cut wireing of and changed alternator but didn't replace wireing . I have got one big wire coming from the starter moter, one big (orange) wire looks like it comes from the engine with the ignition lead. can any one confirm if both the big leads go together on the alternator many thanks.
