First things first - I've done a search! Didn't find much of any use though.

I have a Discovery 200tdi in my Ninety. I believe the alternator is a 65A unit (A127?)

I would like to fit a 100A unit, but there appears to be conflicting views on what will fit. 100A alternators were fitted to later 200tdi and 300tdi engines I believe. But I'm not able to determine whether I can buy any 200/300tdi 100A alternator and fit it directly to my engine.

I'm not worried if the connectors are different - I can handle that. But I don't want to have to make up spacers, new brackets, etc. so it needs to just bolt on.

Anyone able to genuinely confirm what will fit and what will not?

Thanks in advance,
Ian.

I fitted a 100 amp alternator from frogs island to my 110 a few years ago and was forever snapping belts. I could smell the belt burning before it would snap. My fuel pump/boost were tweaked and I had 3 optimas. It was a nightmare so I now run a 65 amp with 3 batterys the usual engine tweaks, full size intercooler and no problems.:)

I had a 100amp disco fitted to my 110CSW with the 19J TD engine, I had to beef up the wiring and cut of the original plug but it fitted on the opriginal mounts, Use the original pulley and ensure there is enough spacers fitted so that the belt runs true. If it is slightly out it chews the belts(speaking from experiance) Once the pulley is spaced properly the belts will be fine.

Why do you want a 100amp alternator anyway ? the 65 amp one on my 300TDI runs all of the electrics and charges my second battery for the winch no probs.
