Hey all

After rumaging through my dads shed, I came across an intercooler, I've asked my dad and it's an Allard one, but it's designed to fit onto a TD engine. Its not a huge one, about twice the size of a standard 200tdi one, and it goes inbetween the slam panel bars. We have loads of pipes to get it to fit, just wondering if because it's designed to fit to a TD, will it be an improvement? I'm still going to fit it, just wondering  :D
Thanks in advance :)

The colder the air getting in to the engine the better :) . Have a play with it I say as you have nothing to loose .
you might notice a bit of lag as the turbo has to fill a bigger area but you can adjust the boost and the pump to compensate for that .

Yeah true :) My dads got a Jeremy Fearn Intercooler and it's near enough the same size as the radiator :D and that thing really does shift, but seeing as this is free and it will be located in a better place than the old intercooler, I might as well fit it, it doesnt matter that the radiator will be slightly blocked, they're overcooler anyway  Cheers :p

there fcukin rubbish

i will take it off ya hands if you want it out of the way..

If they're that bad what would you do with it?

We didn't pay for it, we got it off a mates 90 that he gave to us, I got my snorkel, hardtop, sliding windows and rear door off it for nothing :biggrin1: and now an intercooler, surely can't be worse than a standard one?

oooo sounds fun. wonder what actual improvement it gives to a td

I'm sure it would make a big difference, but the fact that it is indirect injection is what makes it unsuitable for turbocharging apparently
Also I've read that the charge temp is sky high because there's no intercooler on them before :D

i have no idea what that means

Turbo Diesel engine are in-direct injection, there is a chamber before the diesel is injected into the engine, It's more crude, not as efficient and worse on fuel, but is quieter, where as the 200tdi onwards (as the name states Turbo Direct Injection) Is Direct injection, the fuel goes straight from the pump into the engine, More effiecient, more power, but is noisier, but who cares :D The intercooler cools the air going from the turbo into the engine, because when you compress air, it gets warm, so on a turbo diesel engine the temp that the turbo charges at, that's what goes in the engine, less than ideal, because to run effieciently you need the air to be cool, hence why cars now have intercoolers if they are turbocharged  and also why most cars run better when it's cold, there is more oxygen in the air because it's denser, more oxygen, means more fuel that can be burnt to develop more power :D

Fcukin Brilliant.

I have full front allisport on my 300tdi and that made a difference.

Was looking at allisport and jeremy Fearn, but thought I would try this one before I go and buy a £400+ one, who knows, this one might be perfect for what I want :)
