1) Checked fuse 2- ok
2) Put a new brake pedal switch (new version with new loom)
3) Checked all the bulbs- all ok
4) The reversing lights work ok

ECU problem?? you need to get it scaned or buy a box of Swan Vesta's. :D

Thank you for the welcome..... hopefully won't need the Swan Vesta's yet but will let you know how I get on...!

Do you know if they have any relays controlling the brake switch, if so do you know where it is?

Many thanks

When my brake lights failed, they failed with the engine running but worked when the electrics were on and engine off. If this is the same on yours, then try changing the switch on the end of the ignition.

Hi- I think I have sorted it. I have checked the new switch and I believe it is faulty....not good since it is a new switch from the main dealer.... will be changing 2morrow so fingers crossed..

I've had 3 brake switches fail. All new genuine parts. Same part used on the P38, so no surprise it failed.

Tolio:

To eliminate possible earthing problems, try running a temp earth lead (from a known good earth point) directly to the bulb metal casing.. (Yes, the metal outer part of the bulb.)

If the fault disappears, then bad earths are the problem.

Start from the bulb sockets and work backwards... I've had problems on the rear harness connections (behind the RH panel in the rear). The contacts in the multiplugs had slight corrosion on them. Just unplugging and replugging a few times cleared it.

If this is OK, check the rear earth points.. I'll need to look in Rave to identify the exact locations... just ask if you don't have Rave and I'll look them up for you.
