Went to drool over my P36 HSE last night, the light guards have been fitted, bull bar fitted, tow hitch fitted....

My friend who is rebuilding her, came out and used the fob to open her up, he put the key in the ignition and she roared into 4.6ltrs or sound...

Then the alarm went off

Any ideas gents, she runs, she moves, no codes on the dash - only thing we noticed was that the alarm changed tone when the sun roof was operated....

I suppose I could just get ear defenders for driving around :D

Or a pair of side cutters?

This from RAVE

NOTE: If the sensor fails its self-check five
times consecutively, only the ’perimetric’
elements of the security system will be active
(doors, bonnet and tailgate). Any attempt to
’superlock’ with the handset will result in
’ALARM FAULT’ being displayed on the
message centre and a mislock occurring (see
’Mislock’). Seek qualified assistance to rectify
the fault.

I THINK (If I'm reading that correctly) if the Inside sensor fails it DOES NOT immoblise the engine (Hence you could start her up) So, following on from that it says an alarm fault will only show up (in this case) if you SUPERLOCK the vehicle...

Page 15 in the "owners Handbook" section of RAVE

There are no faults showing though - if it was the inside sensor failing, then the alarm would not go off when the engine is started....

Yeah Tiny ..but did you SUPERLOCK it ??? according to RAVE the FAULT ONLY SHOWS when the vehicle is in SUPERLOCK mode

(If I read that thing up there correctly)

I recon the inside sensor has a SPIDER in it ... I had my sons 535i on my drive fer weeks with the damned alarm NOT setting ... went over to bimmer forums & found a post on the same thing .. damn SPIDER in the sensor everytime it mioved it set off the alarm .. after 5 times the alarm went into "Passive" mode & would't set

Knowing that & reading that from rave I Assumed that IF the same happened to a Rangie the Immobilisation Would NOT activate but the Alarm WOULD

Hence you could Start it up but the alarm went off .....You follow my reasoning here ???????

+ it would take a few seconds to "Trigger" the alarm ...(Enough time to get in & crank her over maybe ???)

Hopefully she will be ready for the weekend - tax her from June - 1st trip - Preston - cake and tea?
