Disco 2 Air suspension reinstalled, light stays on

Hi All,

My 03 Disco Td5 had coils fitted when I bought it. All the stuff was still in place so today I took the coils and put airbags in.

I activated the SLS in the Slabs menu. The ride height is 152 on the nanocom.
Now it seems to be working, alright. it lowers a bit when I switch off the engine and it goes up a bit when I the car starts. The SLS light is flashing as it rises but when it is level the light stays on.
Nanocom and Hawkeye don't read any fault codes.

The other button for rising the suspension doesn't seem to do anything either.
What am I missing?
Any ideas?

I thought the SLS light flashed when it was lifting to ORM height and then stayed on when it was at ORM height. What happens to the light when you drive at speed?

It stays on solid (not flashing).

Unplug the ORM switch and see if it changes something or not... if not it seems that the management is stuck in ORM which looks very like an ECU fault

Just to clarify, it is not the ORM light in the right hand top corner.

It is the light on the bottom of the instrument cluster

I've got it... I can't see in that video if the ORM warning comes on or not for self test ... that behaviour of the SLS warning is not normal at all, it behaves like the ORM warning should when ORM is selected... go with nanocom in SLABS - Outputs and force the SLS and ORM warnings on for test see what happens

OK will do, ORM light does not come on while this happens.

I will check if it comes on for self test

OK, both lights work with nanocom. They also work on the right button. Tested the buzzer as well, worked too.

What I did notice is that the car didn't raise itself while the nanocom was in it and the light went off. The light remained off after I started the engine and drove a bit with it.

Can it be that my target heights are set too high or that the calibration went wrong?

it's possible...though i've never heard of flashing SLS warning as part of the protocol... if no joy till the end the ECU remains suspect

Is the SLS a separate ECU?

No, it's part of the SLABS but there are cases when the SLS side fails while the ABS is OK.. or vice-versa

That explains it, just ordered a secondhand one, so I can try if it makes a difference.

There must be a reason why they removed the air suspension. Maybe this is why.

Out of curiosity how did you set the height when you calibrated the ride height sensors? I used the Lynx diagnostic unit on mine and placed 62mm blocks under the bump stops as a reference. It seems to have worked ok. Are they new ride height sensors?

We used a jack under the tow bar, lol

The height sensors were still on the car, but I can see them working on the nanocom and hawkeye

I could see mine working on the lynx but when I took the old ones off the bottom bushes had disappeared altogether. I don't think they are the source of your problem though.

I plan to replace a few bits and bobs when I have it all working. They must have taken it out for reason. If I find the fault everything will be put in brand new.

Fixed!!!
I think using nanocom and hawkeye isn't advisable. Lol

Use one of them and stick with it.

I used the nanocom to check settings, transport mode was enabled eventhough I disabled it yesterday.

Tried to disable and write settings but no joy it enabled again. Switched it off. Went to calibration process again and write settings, after double checking transport mode.

All working now!!
