Hi Chaps,

A component to do with the air conditioning is squeaking: I assume air con as it stops when I press "AC Off". It sounds like a loose belt.

Likely culprits? Easy fix?

Thanks :)

A/C compressor and/or magnetic clutch

Knew it had a clutch, neighbour didn't believe me :p

If the air conditioning is running, the squeak is intermittent, then runs for a few seconds - so would the compressor be more likely?

I shall look in RAVE, but how easy would you say replacing it would be?

Tensioner pulley would be constant as it is turning regardless of a/c demand....but could be belt.

The compressor runs on/off when in use and not constantly so could explain the 4seconds on thing.....

Tensioners or idlers can squeak under load then stop when load comes off and the other way round, they are not always constant.

I have looked in RAVE - are the belt and tensioner part of the compressor, or next to it?
Hopefully just a belt and not something major as it's only £3.33 from Island4x4 :p

The tensioner is the pulley/idler between compressor and crank pulley. You have to flick the plastic cover off it. You will then see a 13 mm pinch bolt and in the pulley an Allen key position. Undo pinch bolt and use Allen key to apply pressure to belt. Tighten pinch bolt. Belt should be just tight enough so you can turn it through 90 degrees with your fingers at it's longest point. If it's too easy to turn over 90 degrees it's to slack. If it's difficult to turn to 90 degrees it's to tight.

Fantastic Wammers, thank you :)

OK, not to sound like a complete gibbon.. but where is the compressor and associated belt..?
I've been under the car looking (basically all I could get from RAVE's "lift car, do job" instructions, and cannot find it. Is there something that needs to be removed/pushed aside first? Or is it part of all the other belts (which I can find!), permanently spinning, and is only squeaking under load?

You will have to remove the front undertray.
