had a new condenser fitted and had it regassed, it worked for a few minutes and then kaputt. the 2 fans don't come on and the 2 pipes are both hot

any tips?

Just done the same on mine but it works fine, the fans don't come on until the condensor is bloody hot, they are supposed to come on at half speed first then full speed if needed according to RAVE.

Actually it sounds like you have a leak and all the gas has gone? For £20 you can get a EZchill cannister with a guage which will allow you to check the pressure and also top up if needed when the system is working properly

can it leak somewhere other than condenser then, i spoke to the place who gassed it and he said his system would now if there was a leak. it passed.

If the clutch is not engaging, that means the compressor is not running and both pipes will be at ambient temperature..the fact that both pipes are very hot indicates that the gas is not getting around the system which could be a stuck thermostatic expansion valve which is located at just right of centre of the bulkhead and there is one of the solid aircon pipes connected to it. If the system was empty the compressor would not run. The condenser fans rarely run unless the ouside temperature is very high..unlikely in the UK!! I have run full diagnostic checks on mine especially with regard to the condenser fan operation and all is fine. Main thing is that with the system working, one pipe to the compressor should be very hot and the other one freezing cold. There is a comprehensive fault finding guide on RAVE which should give you some pointers.

Definately over for about 3 weeks at Xmas for sure Gav, but chances are we will be back over before then. Tell you what..this year is flying by!!
Will post when I have dates.
No problem getting the SRS sorted, quite fancy a trip to "Full Monty" country (You were not one of them were you?)

you will never get there john, you will be to ****ed on the holts beer.:beer2::beer2::beer2::beer2:

had the air con looked at today by a specialist and he reckons its an electrical fault. he has the system working and informs me that the 2
fans should be working at the front when the car is stationary. he thinks i need the gap adjusted on the clutch and possibly a new dryer
and is mystified as to why it was not changed when i had a new condensser fitted, as these go hand in hand he reckons.

all relays are working as is the pump but something is not quite right.

he will return next week with spare parts etc... to test

I'm not aware of the dryer being changed everytime a condensor is fitted - is that standard practice??

According to the RAVE electrical trouble shooting guide, "on petrol engines the Hevac sends a signal to the engine ECU which can call the fans for engine cooling purposes" the ECU then controls Relay 18 via the aircon pressure switch 2 which causes the fans to switch on and off and aircon pressure switch 1 which causes the fans to run in series via relays (half speed) or parallel. The ECU on petrol versions can even call the fans when the engine is off for cooling purposes. On the diesel the Hevac unit controls relay 18 direct via air con pressure switch 2 with no engine ECU intervention.:D:D

So, nothing to do with the car being stationary, everything to do with air con system pressure.:D

I have never heard of the dryer being replaced at the same time as the condensor.

I think your "expert is taking you for a ride:doh:

could be,
although what you said about the ecu he said about and asked whether i had it plugged
in for fault codes etc.

now forgive me for being thick but i thought the hevac computer was for this, hence the
book display which incidentally has gone out on mine since all the work...

irishrover says that fans never come on in uk cause of temp in uk, have you been outside today?
