Thats good!

Plus Halfords are offering a/c regas for £29

Kwikfit is £49 but you only get charged if its 10% colder than when you brought it in.

did wonder what halfords were currently charging , went in there last week and the orpington branch said they only sold the diy kits for over £60

amazon are currently selling diy kits for £38

Amazon product

i've also got an ultraviolet torch, will be interesting to see after its re gassed if it will show anything

the DIY kits are bollocks, I used one followed every instruction and it did nothing.. Assume AC was knackered, took it to a garage who said lets try first, they re-gassed and it was fine.

tried to book my landy in and is a few weeks time so took the risk and bought a diy kit

regarded and now all working, is heaven now having working ac , then made sure it was all working via the diagnostics

plus very happy as the system now reports no faults,

Good news!

many thks, certainly made a change for something to work and not getting an endless list of faults

has taken some time to work through them all

just got the front strut dropping over a 24hr period, can then get onto basic maintenance, i.e. brakes etc , planning to replace all the discs , pads and hoses

got its mot next month so going to wait , gulp

I just take mine to a mates house who is a proper mechanic has a proper machine plugs it in and it vacs out the old gas, does a vac leak test then refill with the correct amount of gas, oil and dye then uses a special smoke bomb to clean out all the vents.

Usually have a coffee while its doing its thing, only in sidcup to.

that's sounds good and local as well, lol

may i ask does he accept new customers , if so would it be ok if u pm me his details plse

does he just do ac or everything else , would be handy to have a local mechanic when i can't do some jobs , also better that comes with a recommendation

the only reason i done mine was the fear of something getting damaged, as it was on zero , another reason was having my dogs in the landy , wanted it nice and cool for them

He does everything, he recently fixed a mates shogun after the main dealers fecked it right up. Was a proper engine strip down to as the injector seals were damaged by the dealer another garage said scrap it.....my mate fixed it and saved a £15 k motor.

I will pm you his number he also happens to be a landy owner him self.

bless u for that

some of the garages i've used before won't go near my D3 , saying there lift won't take the weight , or don't have the heavy tools for suspension etc , so just didn't bother

never forget the story of a main dealer replacing all the wiring looms on a D3 , then a second garage found the fault to be a blown rear light bulb

good to have someone who is also a landy owner and comes with a recommendation is perfect

many thks once again

Disco 2. 2002 auto
My airc on has a very slight leak somewhere. Garage filled it last year ,changed a couple of seals and advised with age not worth repairing. Takes a few months to all leak out. Just thinking of regassing and by the end of the summer will probably hav gone. Is this a reasonable way to continue?

Only you can answer that but I will say we run trucks with milliion ks on the clock and the a/c has to work.
A proper a/c man (not your local garage) with a nitrogen bottle and some soapy water will be able to find the leak.

Mine passed a vacuum test so had it re gassed and it leaked. Turned out it only leaked under pressure. Makes me ask why vacuum test something thats pressurised.

My new(est) D2 needs doing, it blows hot!! (It was 33ºc outside) might just be a re-gas but if its leaking or worse... how much to fix on average? Anyone know?

Mine passed a vacuum test so had it re gassed and it leaked. Turned out it only leaked under pressure. Makes me ask why vacuum test something thats pressurised.
The vacuum evacuation of the system is a prerequisite to charging the system with refrig gas, any air in the system contains moisture, which adversely effects the operation of the system and causes internal corrosion in the compressor , by reducing the pressure, vacuuming it causes the moisture to be released and removed at the low pressure.
As this is a necessary part of recharging it is convenient to lock up the vacuumed out system for a period, firstly to allow all the moisture to "boil off" and to see that there are no leaks of air back into the system.
But as has already been said in post #15, high pressure leaks can be located by pressurising the system with an inert dry gas, nitrogen, and soaping all around joints of pipes and hoses seals etc, then revert to vacuum and regas, but in most cases the vacuum test is sufficient prior to the regas.

I agree that it has to be vacuumed prior to the re gas I just think it may be better to pressure test first then vacuum it out afterwards.
