I have a sudden spurt of enthusiasm to sort some more niggles out on my P38 following the unexpected MOT pass this week. Dunno why I thought it wouldn't get through, but I've become more pessimistic since owning it

On the hottest bank holiday weekend I can remember in a long time, my priority has become the aircon and/or sunroof.

I have the usual book symbol on the HEVAC display and have recently changed the pollen filters which were full of crud and now the blower is really quite good. All of the options on blower direction appear to work and I can get hot or ambient temperature, but nothing like effective air cooling from the aircon. Having read loads of previous threads, I'm thinking of going for the Kwik Fit gas recharge option as £45 seems worth a flutter. Before I do so and then consider hacking the console and dash to pieces in order to change sensors and blend motors etc, has anyone got any idea what it means when both aircon pipes are hot?

Either I get this sorted or resort to driving around wearing nothing but Speedos. Not a good look!

i would check the cost of a proper refill aND LEAK TEST ON IT FIRST. A RE-GAS IS ONLY AROUND 50 QUID BY A PROPER PLACE

oops hit caps lock

ive got what sounds like the same sort of problem as you! been meaning to get round and look at it but havent had the time lately.

I was in halfords the other day and saw the diy kits for regasing and other kit for sealing any leaks, now i dont know if they are any good and if i do have any leaks but the price of both kits is about the same as garage would charge for a regas???(just an idea)

if you sort yours out before i do let me know how you get on.

Is the compressor clutch engaging? Could be that there is no gas in the system. One pipe should be very hot and the other freezing cold in a gassed up system. On the aircon pipes running along the bulkhead there are two large tyre type valves, one is larger than the other. Remove the cap from the smaller of the two and depress the valve core briefly, you should hear a fairly strong blast of gas..if there is nothing, then the system is empty.
Take the car to an aircon place and get them to charge the system with Nitrogen, this is an inert gas, much cheaper than R134a (Refigerant). If it's a bad leak, you will hear it as it's being filled. They can add UV dye to the charge which will show up under a UV lamp and help pinpoint the leak. If it is leaking, usual place is top L.H. corner of the Condenser, located in front of the radiator..remove the slam panel if you need a closer look, you cannot see the top corner by removing just the grille.

You can say that Gav!!!...EAS, Book symbol, Overheating, Aircon not working, EKA lockout, Keys on Ebay etc. etc. constitute 95% of the posts. Can't understand why people can't do a search??????????

i quite enjoy cut copy paste!!!! lol!!!!

You missed the all time favourite, "My battery keeps going flat":D:D:D

erm.......mine keeps going flat, but not for that reason. its cos it ant be run and was out of petrol so i had to start on lpg a couple of times!!! then fecking about with the window mech flattened it so i couldnt get the eka in. also my aircon needs a regas and i gotta replace a blend motor to take the book symbol off so i got it pretty much covered!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

I know this is repeat business for you elder statesmen, but I did read the threads - just couldn't find one that answered the issue of both aircon pipes being hot and what that might mean.

You might think it tedious, but your answers are really helpful and means that many of us can keep our tanks rolling without mortgaging the house to pay the main stealers.

;)

i'd say it was low on pressure get it tested for leaks and re gassed. also have a look see if the centre of the pump is turning with the outer!

I am not worthy, I am not worthy!! :)
