I have noticed the aerial base on my Freelander 1 is perishing and pretty much falling apart. I can find lots of new aerial bases but all says excluding navigation system.

I will never use the nav system in my car its very outdated but I still want the radio to work etc, will I be able to use a normal Freelander aerial base and still keep radio functionality or is there something special about the aerial bases that are suitable for naivgation systems?

Coax connection is different between the nav aerial for the radio and the non nav version - can route a new coax cable if you use the non nav version if needed

You can buy the LR cable for the non nav FL1, but be warned, they are quite expensive, especially if you want a new mast too. Mine needed a new cable, so I bought a complete universal kit from Amazon, for less than £10. I'm using that at now, as I wasn't going to spending silly money for LR stuff.

Ok I will have a look into that, I will also try to get a second hand aerial base but they seem incredibly few and far between, in fact haven't found any yet so will put a wanted ad up when I have enough posts as well, failing that will do as you say, its not currently the end of the world condition at the moment but will certainly need doing.

Only actually noticed it as was going to go through a car wash but couldn't get the mast undone!

Managed to get one brand new, must be one of the last in the country considering the amount of effort I had to go through to find one.
