I am returning to the fold after many years absence (1994-1998 TD5 Auto from new), primarily to use as Winter transport (we live on the side of a hill which seems to get more than its share of snow!) - I am thinking of a budget of up to £5,000 and at this level the dealers seem to have a good range of 99/00 TD5's with c. 100k miles, both manual and auto. My previous Discovery clocked up 95k miles and had a good number of minor faults (32 in total) but the engine and gearbox were both solid. I am tempted to go back to an auto box and possibly get a better spec vehicle XS or ES. I would welcome advice from those that have more recent experience in terms of model/transmission choice and key things to watch out for.

TD5 good car..but with its issues..check my threads out for many probs Ive had with mine!
I would say £5k is a little too much..try private
I gave £4600 for mine 2 years ago on a '98 with 105k..GS spec so basic spec but tidy car
