Advice on first landy

I'm going to be buying my first landy very soon. I am looking at a 200 Tdi 90 as they seem to get the best MPG per money atm.

I have in the region of £3-4000 to spend. From looking at autotrader recently the number of available 90's seems to have declined and the price of those available seems to have increased

I've seen one or two but i'm cautious about them. What things are best to look for ? I considered a HPI check but i'd prefer not to if there are things i can check myself. Arranging dates that are suitable for the company and the seller could get akward.

Most of the ones for sale seem to ahve between 100,000 - 140,000 miles on the clock. Is this going to be a problem ? And what is the opinion of early 90's with transplanted 300/200 Tdi's in them ?

You are in the same situation as me!!!! Still doing my research!!! I am after a Defender 90 200TDi to kit out for proper off roading, as this is all my future Landy will be doing!!!

Where in the UK are you? I am in Leicester.

Im living in both shropshire and in pembrokeshire.

Ive been looking all through december and nothing local has come up. Does anyone have any ideas other than autotrader where i may find one ?

or mebby go a bit broader and try

4x4 mart
total offroad or other mix vehicle mags

oh and one last thing just keep your eyes open localy if like me you dont mind being a little cheeky just talk to any landy owners you can it dosent matter if you know them or not! (maybe that why i get a few strange looks when im out but hey)

I have bought a 1986 90 N/A Diesel, wanted the 200 TDi but my budget for getting it off road would not stretch.

But she is dark purple, in good shape with 115,000 miles on it. Getting it checked out on Saturday before parting with the cash.

I know it is not really a Defender, but I don't like the '90' graphics so thought, what the hell!!!

Looks like my other toy will have to stay on the drive now, I have a 260bhp Vauxhall Zafira GSi Turbo which was my hobby until now, still love the car, but the 'scene' has gone down hill to be honest.

Looking forward to meeting people on this scene as it appears much better and more mature.

I also have mine now. A K reg 1992 200 Tdi Defender 90. Refurbished, resprayed .. drives like new

All it has on is a full chequer plate kit and A/T tyres so im gonna have to be saving my pennys for that off road gear

Steering guard / Snorkel / Winch / Nudge bars etc...

Anyway. Im happy hehe
