My freelander runs like a dream. I do short runs to and from work 14 miles there and 14 mile back. At weekends I do 140 mile round trip.I am loosing coolant at a rate of 1 litre per week, no obvious leaks anywhere.
A very slight evidence of mayonnaise spots(nothing like the yellow mess I've seen in other forums pictures) in oil, (could just be old oil not changed in a while) and evidence of oil scum deposit in the coolant tank (appeared when I started using a new coolant additive) but water losses have been consistent for over a year.

DO I HAVE A PROBLEM? sorry WHAT IS MY PROBLEM? Is the head gasket on its way out?

What concerns me is the car runs great, no engine noise ticks over nicely, Id hate to put it into a Garage and them mis-diagnose it, its done over 50K.

Look forward and appreciate in advance any replies.

PB

it's a 1.8 piece of **** k series hgf ,loose liners or tipped liners and sequential hgf notorious
:welcome2:

What additive did you put into the coolant? And what coolant do you currently have in... green or red?

Also how long ago was the oil changed?

What is the state of your coolant exspansion tank? i.e. dirty or clear enough to see through?

I'd recommend trying to fix the leak (inlet manifold is very common, could be a split pipe somewhere or see if the pipes are pushed onto all the connectors properly) then flush and change coolant and change oil, see how it then runs.

change the oil, replace the coolant, and see if the problem persists. As for a leak it is very likely it could be a hole in a hose or crack in the expansion tank aswell as hgf.

Makes note........................never to buy a motor from fanny attic, you cowboy mechanic.

K-seal and Radweld are the devil's work

I was clearly stating piece of ****, I too wouldn't want to go that route, but some do. If you buy a 1.8 k series it goes with the territorial.
