hi

i am not sure if this is normal or not but when i first start the Rangie in the morning i can here the ABS brake Booster pump pumping away for aprox 20 seconds or so, i thought these were filled with gas to keep them constantly at working pressure, my guess is due to age the canister has lost pressure and requires daily pumping up to working pressure

should i be on the lookout for a replacement sooner rather than later

It is normal for the pump to run in this way and if if only runs for 20 seconds it shows that it is in good order. You are right that the system is under pressure this is done by the accumilator but it is normal for the pressure to drop while standing. You only need to replace the accumilator if the charge time takes 40 to 45 seconds.
Hope this helps

hi

thanks that has confirmed what i am thinking

the accumilator thats the round bit:eek: ? if i need to replace it will i lose the gas inside or do they have a valve that prevents this?

first you need to deprsurize the brakes(pump the pedal about 30 times with the ignition off)unscrew it i used an oil filter wrench, some brake fluid will come out, refit the new one along with a new o ring, then bleed the brakes, clean up any spilt brake fluid job done

They are a sealed unit, the only way you will loose the gas is if you drill a hole in it. You don't need to worry about loosing gas as they are pre pressurised with nitrogen and this has nothing to do with the pump. When or if you get a replacement one it will be pressurised too.

they make bloody good hand grenades,we used them as we ran short in the first gulf conflict, bit of modifying and away they went;)
