A slight fuel problem..

Well, the car was starting okay for as long as I had it. Then we started having troubles with it starting; it would crank but not fire up. So I changed over the fuel filter and the glow plugs. However.. the problem still persists.

I decided to change the fuel lift pump, but again, it fails to start at all. Before changing this, even though it failed to start, it did start sometimes. It fails to start completely now.

I filled up the filter with diesel, I've tried operating the fuel lift pump but it doesn't seem to be bleeding the system? - I loosened the bleed screw and operated the fuel lift pump but to no avail..

I've also took the fuel return union and fuel feed from the governor, and they seemed somewhat dry.

Have any ideas?

Andddd, the car is a Landrover Discovery 1995 DIscovery 300TDi.

First off is there any smoke coming from the exhaust when cranking? If you have smoke, you have fuel. No smoke=no fuel.

If you have no smoke check the fuel stop solenoid is getting a live feed. You will find this located on the underside and near the rear of the injection pump. Check the small rubber leak off pipes between the injectors aren't split or perished too. This will allow air into the system and the fuel will seep back down to the tank.

A decent 300tdi won't need glow plugs unless the temperature is well into minus figures. My guess is that it'll be the leak off pipes at fault.
