Right folks I am umming and arrring about my brakes. I havnt put the new rebuild kit (will be doing that) on yet but I have built up pressure on the old brakes (which will be scrapped) and all the wheels lock up ok.

Now does this mean the servo and master cylinder are alright because it does in my head and the old steel brake lines are covered in sealant not rusty so would they pass the dreaded MOT ok?

Or should I scrap the lot and rebuild it front to back?

you can test servo by holding your foot on brake and starting engine if servos working foot will creep down on pedal as vacuum builds, what needs changing ?

Problem is the engine isn't running at the moment due to needing a new pipe and pump.

Its just been parked up for a long long time and as I am doing the rebuild now and have come into a few extra pennies I wondered if it was worth replacing the lot? The pressure builds up ok on the foot pedal and it does lock the old brakes on which are knackered and wound back on the adjusters at the moment.

The brake pipes are the steel type used by the MOD which are covered in the usual sealant and not rusty so I wondered if they would be ok for the MOT as well before I spend a fortune on replacing bits!

pressure needing to build up would suggest ,fluids contaminated ,has air or seals in master arent to good, without seeing the condition of the system its hard to say

I know what you mean its a catch 22. I think I will just fit the rebuild kit on the drums then bleed it through and see what happens. Just don't want to spend a fortune if there is no need to.

BUT also want to be safe of course lol hey ho best start at the begging then eh.

Thanks for the quick replies as well :)
