Hi chaps,

Just primed (zinc 182) and painted (hammerite with waxoyl) my rear axle, spring mounts and brake shields and slowly moving my way up the underside of the car preparing for waxoyling.

Ive noticed my A-Frame is looking rather worse for wear so while im here I wanna remove it, strip it and replace bushes (ball joint is ok).
Question is, the A frame brackets that bolt to the cross member are siezed fast into a rather huge crystalised rusty mess.

Any advice on how to get em out, are they bolted straight though so i can cut em off with a disc cutter or are they tapped/threaded into cross member.

some pics to follow when my back will let me get under her again later today...me neck dont half ache! and ive boggies the size of moths :)

I to would like to know a tip for that job.
I need to replace my 90 rear axle as the spring mount has totally rotted!
I was gonna apply force with big socket set and scaff tube, but if that fails then whaddya do?

pics as promised - anyone elses cross member this bad? the rest of the vehicle is rusty in places but not like this!!

opinions and advice chaps??

p.s I have the M10 x 50mm for the A-frame bracket to chassis mounts but what size bolt would suit the rear A-frame bushes?

Here ye go Joe. Ye'll need....

2 bolts BH612321 ( 3/4" UNF x 3. 7/8" long) and 2 nyloc nuts NY612041 for the A frame to chassis frame.

2 bolts 253952 (1/2" UNF x 6. 7/8" long) and 2 nyloc nuts NY608041L for the 'arms' to the fulcrum (bracket with the ball joint).

2 bolts BX110111L and 4 bolts BX110091L and 6 nyloc nuts for the bracket that fits to the chassis

Ye'll also need plain washers tae suit.

If ye google those part no's ye'll get an idea on prices;)

Just fur the hell o' it....

I need to replace my 90 rear axle as the spring mount has totally rotted!

you can buy the repair mounts for spring, shock and trailing arm

had to do mine over the weekend(springs and trailing arms) all in all an easy job as the old spring mounts fell if in the spring

Nice one will look into that, was just gunna fit my rangie rear axle so I had disc's on the rear, I imagine the kit will need to be welded to axle?

ahh i see i have discs on mine, :D

but the repair parts are cheap spring mounts were about 6quid each fitted like a dream perfect:D

now the trailing arm ones(about 10) went ok but needed modifying a bit as they were britpart:doh: and had the wrong radiaus to meet the axle:mad: but after abit of tlc they both fitted like gloves:D and ye they are weld on but when i rang up the bloke asked if i wanted bolf on or weld on  so maybe they do a bolt on clamp type  dunno id rather no they were welded personaly (cus my old ones were only sat in place:p)

Maybe he means the cup that bolts on?
Yeah I would need to weld mine on I went to unbolt the 'cup' one nut snapped and the next one the whole thing broke off:eek:
lol. Think I will stick the rangie axle on, Its in better condition, externally, but done 180000ish miles! But I know the rangie transmission is pretty good really, well apart from the auto box noises:cool:
But I got spare diff if need be:D

Buster you are a true gent, thankyou very much indeed. Found all I needed at Mcmillan 4x4. The lot is on order for £29 delivered.
Thanks-will let you know how I get on.
