Just a thought ,if i disconnect the battery on my 97 disco what happens with the alarm on reconnection,does it work as normal or is there something that has to be reset ,just curious to know ?

if nothing is wrong then nothing strange will happen.
I guess you've not disconnected the battery yet. If you do, the alarm will sound (it has battery back up). To prevent this, turn the ignition on and off and disconnect the battery within 15 secs. It should work as normal on reconnection, you'll need to reset the clock and stereo settings but that's it.
