Hi, my newly acquired 90 2.5TD has a few issues that I will be working to resolve over the weekend. I'm guessing its some sort of earth fault or cross over from the radio install, but with all fuses in and the engine switched off, the headlamps stay on.

Anyone had same or similar issues, and possible cause? (Might save me spending numerous hours trying to find a bad earth)

Thanks,
JMF

Try either the fuse box earth or the light earth. It may be on the back lights or on one of the front lights. Also did you replace any relays/wires

Ive had this problem also with the lighting switch itself.
It can not handle the current being sent through it (some people fit a relay to the switch to stop the surge) and it can melt adding a permanent connection.

Ive had a bit of a play and reckon the switch on the steering column is fine (doesn't look like its melted at all, and the side lights switch on and off just fine). Im struggling with the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual though, as they seem to indicate another switch in the circuit (?). Does anyone know where this is hiding, or do they mean this is the ignition switch?

The car had this fault when I picked it up, and the previous owner had added a new lighting circuit with relay, etc to feed some 12" spots on the front (now removed and waiting reinstallation). Because this circuit was a bit dodgy too, Ive stripped it out, but have yet to investigate what else he might have done in the fusebox. (I have this funny feeling that he has bypassed the steering column switch and direct fed the lights!).

Any comment on the switch issue above would be greatly appreciated (btw earths on headlights appear fine).
Cheers
