Hi...I have recently bought a 90 county and a few boxes of stuff.. In the boxes there are four individual rear seats and backs..I can see where they are bolted to the base but no idea what happens at he side...
I have no seat belts / lap straps and no place to fit seat belts by the look of it.

please can someone either talk me through how things are fitted or maybe even a snap if it's not tooo much trouble

thanks very much
Paul

There should be two vertical risers bolted to the side for each of the backrests, they look like a piece of thin angle steel about 18 inches long You should also have a tubular steel frame that runs the length of each side of the tub where the seat belts attach to. Unfortunately (?) I'm on holiday at the moment so can take any piccys. if you can find a parts manual on-line then you should be able to see what I mean.

Each seat has two brackets at the rear of each seat which bolt to the sides of the landy, just below the side windows. The seat belts are anchored to the box sections, which base of the seats are fixed. IE wheel arches. Hope this helps.

I took the rear seats out of my 110. The seat backs are supported by bolting on to the sides of the body and there's a bar for the seat belts.

Thanks for replies so far...and sorry for being so dumb on these things - I am a proper Land Rover virgin!! Wanted one for years but know nothing about these amazing motors.

Anyone got any pics of seats in place? Still struggling to see how the seat back risers fit... :-/

Seat belts weren't always fitted, and have never been compulsory for side-facing seats. The exact fitting arrangement for the seat belts can vary depending on model year. They're not a testable item for the MOT test as that only concerns forward-facing seats.

For each seat back, there are two bolts which go into the side of the tub, and two which go through the wheel arch.I'll get some pictures of mine (1988) when it's light unless someone gets there first ;)

Not sure what age yours is, mine's a 1996 Defender County.
Here are some pictures of mine, to go with what has been described so far.

Here's the setup in mine, unchanged since Solihull.

The seat base hinges simply bolt to the floor. The middle two share a mounting point in mine. Likewise, the seat belts are bolted through the floor with a substantial spreader plate on the underside. The tubular frame holding the seat belts on later models is arguably a better design.

The installation in the corner is basically the same.

The seat backs are secured by two bolts through the floor of the wheel arch, and two more which secure it to the side of the tub. It slides over the top of the two tub bolts first, then the lower mounts are secured before tightening up the tub bolts. I haven't had the trim panels off so not sure exactly how they bolt through them, but if yours had seats which have been removed, the fixings should still be there for refitting.

Wicked...think I'm looking at basically bolting in as flyingpete shows. Mine is a '93 so obv too early for tubular section which looks like a great plan but is only as good as it's fixings I guess

Seen as I live around 2.5 miles from main entrance of LR in Solihull maybe I should go ask them!!!

Thanks for help from all who replied :)

If you choose to retrofit seat belts, remember that you'll need a spreader plate on the underside of the wheel arch where they bolt through- otherwise the bolts can simply tear through the aluminium in a crash. Fit lap belts only on this type of seat; manually-adjusted is standard but retractable types are available as well.

No child seats are approved for use in side-facing seats, and the child seat law isn't set up with old land rovers in mind. Logically, a correctly-adjusted lap belt should fit a smaller person without any additional booster cushion (whose purpose is to put the upper body in a suitable position for a shoulder belt) but it's not 100% clear in the wording if this is acceptable. Without seat belts, they're entirely legal to use by anyone over 3.
