In the UK, thankfully.
Right, here goes. A colleagues son has a 300tdi Defender. The brake servo has not operated properly for about 2 years. The servo was changed about 1 year ago but still doesnt work. It is in a Landrover dealership and they have advised him that a lobe on the camshaft may have broken off ? Surely the camshaft has nothing to do with the brakes? Any ideas? The engine runs sweet.

take vac pump off rotate cam and check lobes x2 ,lobes dont break off but can wear, fault more likely vac pump or pipe work leaking, cam works pump works servo, what are symptoms hard pedal

then either servo diaphragm , vac pump ,pipe leak or cam unlikely but possible easy enough to check by removing pipe from servo and checking suction on pipe

your servo gets it's power from the vacume pump which is driven off the cam, the pump is the bean can shaped thing mounted above your oil filter. As said before, if the cam has worn or the vac pump is dead then you will have no servo assistance.

Crash - just a point if the vehicle is in Perth it may well be worth taking to it to Dalcrue breakers Dalcrue Auto Salvage - Home for them to see what they think. They are (usually) nice people, they know what they're talking about and will definitely sell you the part much more cost effectively. Just a thought
