Well someone somewhere is having a Giraffe at the price of the clip STC3952 / LR008722 for the actuator rod on a 300tdi, changed my actuator today as I had found the rod was bent by the PO.

Stupid clip snapped. Have been and got a few e-clips to try them out and see if one fits.

Plus while adjusting the handbrake, found the transfer box output shaft M20 nut was loose?? have replaced with a new one and willlkeep a wary eye on it. But did find the UJ on the handbrake end of the rear prop is a little bit on the loose side of tight so will swap that out in the AM.

Oohh them clips. Yep pricy,think we used a very small circlip.
This was not on a road motor but worked well.
Unsure why they used them clips

You have to pull the rod against the spring in the actuator to get it onto the waste gate lever. This pre-loads the spring so that it will hold the waste gate closed until the boost pressure acting on the diaphragm overcomes the spring pre-load.

The amount of pre-load determines what boost pressure is required to open the waste gate. Increase the pre-load if boost pressure is to low and vice versa.

Sorry I can't tell you a length. I suggest you install it at the original setting and check the boost pressure when your gauge is installed. Unfortunately the link is in a difficult position to work on.

The stock boost pressure is approximately 15 psi or 1 bar. You can happily run up to about 18 psi or 1.2 bar - beyond that the compressor is out of it's efficient region and heats the charge air rather than producing much useful air flow increase.

to increase boost you shorten the wastegate rod , a 1/4" length
change will give about 0.3bar difference .

there is a circlip on the pin of wastegate pin which holds the rod in
place, this is easy to remove as it has a u loop in one end .

if you increase the boost by shortening the rod then you need to be
able to pull the rod under some tension so it will go back on the
pivot pin .

300tdi landrover wastegate and rod are under the manifold and difficult
to get at and work on but discoveries i think have wastegate on top of
manifold so are easy to work on .

make sure you grip the rod connected to wastegate diaphragm with mole
grips and undo the retaining nut with a spanner [10mm] before removing
rod itself .

Evening, marra.
Just been out and had a look at mine. Well, you can't see it so I've had a feel. Used a razor blade from the lock nut and got 7 clicks before hitting the smooth rod. did it several times to check. HTH

Just a quickie, did you ever get your turbo gauge working correctly? on the turbo wastegate side of the system? If so what is the max pressure you see on it?
I fitted a turbo gauge after driving for a few times with the new wastegate actuator and realising the old one must have been malfunctioning for a while now.

Mine sits very nicely at 3K at approx 14 / 15 Psi. In 3rd and 4th.

But know I need to lengthen the rod as it will pressure up to approx 18. Psi if I boot it. Will try and restrict it to approx 16.5 17 Psi.

Max I get out of mine, flat out, under load on a gradient is about 0.9bar that's about 12-13psi
My pressure tapping is in the back of the inlet manifold.

I never fiddled with my waste gate actuator arm as it was preset when I bought it and I think it said you invalidated the warranty if you altered it. I think it's set with paint or something. Anyway, I just thought it must be set for the optimum, standard performance. I've not even considered adjusting it. I think my first move should probably be to investigate the FIP as it's 22 years old and never had anything done to it. The diaphragm may not be at it's best!
