seen a thread on another forum which says a good mod is to fit the turbo from a 300TDi onto a 200TDi to get performance gains.

Anyone else heard of this, tried it or any ideas on its effectiveness?

I would imagine there's not much in it as (from memory) they're both Garrett T23 units. The 300 may have newer bearings and generally be in better nick hence the performance upgrade.

Unhook the wastegate actuator arm, tighten the connector hook by five turns, nip lock nut and hook it back. Adjust your fuelling screw by 1/4 turn and see how that goes...

paddocks say different parts.

I aint got one Take 5 (remember The Dibnah!) - just thought it could be useful to others.

Hmmm, will have to look that up, but it maybe due to the fact that 300TDi's have some 'lectrikery helping control things. Will check the casting marks over the weekend on a very early 300TDi (one of the very first batch in a Def 90) and compare wiff me 200 casting. Should be interchangeable, and I don't think there is any internal difference maybe some slight external mods (bracketry etc).

Damn, you've got me thinking now!

Hasn't this been covered before on another thread (Increasing your turbo boost), are you recomending that this is done without a gauge:confused: if so why?

Think it was charlesY that said he would like to see a video of one done so we can see an engine explode:D

I aint recomending anyfink - just wondered what the diffs are between the 200tdi and 300tdi turbos and if it would be of benefit to upgrade a 200tdi to a 300tdi turbo, as suggested on anuvva web site.

the 2.8 is different as its got variable vanes or something. The 300 Tdi has no electrickery except I think late 300 Discos had a fly by wire fuel injector pump.

yeh i know its a different, but still based- all be it loosly - on the 300tdi. so might be able to make use of the varyable vane turbo.

the late 300tdi's had a chip or something to controll them i believe, but only the last ones (discos and defenders)

I've got an 'R' reg 90 an my mates is an 'S' reg 110 no chips between us but the disco did but only on the pump. AFAIK

Just stick one of these in there no?

its been done, not worth the time or money for a little tweek of 200 bits. think people arnt realising that 300's run a tad more boost thats all.

A bit late on this forum but I thought I would post a picture of my conversion to a 300tdi manifold on a 200tdi, I used a down-pipe for a 300tdi ESR2297 flush cut the pipe off the flange that bolts to the manifold, on the esr2297 there is a nice dog leg that I offered up to the flange from underneath shortening the pipe cut by cut till it missed the engine mounting and looked right then got the misses to mark the down pipe using the stud nearest the wheel as a datum and tippex to mark the pipe, unbolted flange and tacked pipe on and recheck then welded on, I used the rest of the ESR2297 (the upwards bend to the dog leg) and the flange and pipe I saved from my original down pipe to attach to the link pipe , in hind sight I should have left two inches of pipe on the flange as that piece of pipe is just smaller in diameter and fits in the flange and not on the flange which I did and on bolting up found that I couldn't get a ring or socket on only a opened ended spanner, I used the flange and a piece of pipe that bolts to the exhaust centre link pipe , it all fits nice I thought I would shorten the waste gate bar while it was off and then pumped in a gauge, drilled and tapped into the plugged the screws into the manifold, It boots to 1.7 bars so will have to adjust that.

Just noticed this thread so better late than never
I have a 200 tdi that I have fitted a 300 turbo and manifold from a discovery easy job to do only fiddly bit was had to make a new exhaust downpipe to miss the engin mount
And change oil feed pipe to discovery one Power difference in minimal main advantage is the turbo and piping sits a hell of a lot better and this extra space has allowed me to drop a 100a alternator in the correct position where as before it was a very ugly top mounted bodge

I've done it, put a new 300 turbo on a 200 cause thats what l had to work with, didn't make any difference performance wise, dipstick was a pain if l remember : )
