I need to find out what size the rocker studs are, the ones that the rocker cover acorn nuts screw onto.

The centre stud on my 90 has stripped the thread in the head and I am going to need to put a helicoil in. I have a new stud on it’s way however I don’t want to order the thread repair kit until I am sure what size it is. I would do it myself but I am at work at the moment.

I think it’s a standard M8 thread 1.25 thread pitch, can anyone confirm this?

It is M8 1.25 thead pitch if anyone ever needs to know!

If you knew that why did you ask?

Or did you buy a thread gauge in between your two posts like I suggested?

Remember to use the rocker pedestal as a guide and use heaps of Loctite.

You sure it was screwed in properly, mine was like that when I got it but the threads go well into the head, so I just screwed it in a bit further into the good threads. I think it's caused when the rocker cover is taken off and the stud comes out a bit with the nut, it's not noticed and before you know it's only in a few threads with most of the stud screwed into the nut at the opposite end.

Pretty sure – I took the stud right out and cleaned it all up and put it back in until it bottomed out. I was then able to pull it out without using much force - it brought pieces of thread with it. The studs thread is rounded too, I suspect someone has had a leak and has horsed the rocker cover acorn nut, or they have horsed the rocker pedestal nut and pulled the stud out.

Pictures of the repair to follow.
