Hi guys,

I've got a 300tdi discovery 1 that won't start in the morning (whenever the car is left for a long period of time)

If I keep cranking eventually it starts with a big puff of smoke out the exhaust (and I mean big). If I then turn the car off, it will start straight away.

Could air be getting into the lift pump? I replaced it 2 years ago, but maybe its faulty again.
When bleeding the fuel filter screw, should I pump, close, open, pump - or open the screw and keep pumping?
Any help appreciated!!

You've got air getting in somewhere.
Easy first thing, replace the injector spill pipes.
Cheap and quick to eliminate.

Fuel pick up pipes rot out under the boot floor.
Remove black trim, lift carpet and insulation, then remove round plate and there it is.
