Hello Guys,

Think I opened myself up for a world of hurt when my (cash strapped) parents asked me to help swap the engine in their 300tdi Discovery, as "i'd fitted a 200tdi into my series"... How hard can it be right....? Anyway, 2 months later, juggling work, volunteer roles, life and everything... after every component that COULD break, breaking, anything that COULD go wrong going wrong... The (free! - replacement) engine is in.

However, we have a small problem between the difference of ages. the original 1998 vehicle, had an electronic black box of tricks for the immobiliser on the back of the fuel pump, and 2 multi plugs. one blue, one black. The replacement 1996 engine does not have this, just a single spade terminal for the stop solenoid. my immediate reaction was "never mind" and swapped over the looms so the loom matched the engine.

So the problems, Yesterday my folks were trying to finish off some of the final bits without me there, and they've said that the cream multi plugs under the dash is a different size to the one that came off... Would this be true? I'm pretty certain when i laid both looms out to check the differences the only difference between the plugs i noticed was a (slightly) different pin layout not different sizes.

Next... if I rectify this issue, either by actually just plugging it in myself because it's not different and they were wrong... OR by removing the pins and putting them into the correct sized multi plug so the loom connects up.

Will the engine actually start/stop as of course the vehicle has the spider for the immobiliser, which now of course won't be able to talk to the fuel pump. without some form of signal between brain and pump will the brain actually switch on the start solenoid?

Help...

(and yes... I wish I hadn't agreed to help)
