I for some time now i have had a leak from somewhere around the Oil filter housing on my 300tdi so a few days ago i managed to remove the oil filter housing and changed all the O rings fitted a new oil sensor replaced the unit with a new gasket with a good smear of locktite silicone gasket then left it for 24 hours. started it up and the leak was still there, i cleaned all the oil from around the area and watched for a while. i could see a small amount of oil runnung down the left hand side of the engine casing where the oil filter housing fits which made me think the oil migh be coming from above the housing. i could not see any signs of a leak on the engine breather pipe which runs down to the engine breather cover (part number ERR4706P) but decided to replace it anyway, i undid both jubelee clipes remover the hose then noticed that the spiggot pipe coming from the breather cover was lose. i gripped it with a pair of long nose pliers and it pulled out with ease the depth of the spiggot was about 3/8th of an inch. i have replace the rubber hose and siliconed to spiggot back in place, I dont know if this is normal, has anybody else had this problem. I would appreciate your comments. Cheers Geoff

The leak could be coming from the brake booster vac pump, that is a common oil leak spot and located pretty well above the oil filter housing.
