300tdi blown

Hello everyone new to this group looking for advice, I've a discovery 1 300tdi great old workhorse but I've completely blown the engine and the rebuild estimate has an awful lot of zeros in it ,just wondering where's the best spot to get a reasonably priced replacement or I'm also thinking this might be an opportunity to upgrade to a bigger engine as I tow a lot of heavy loads and find the 2.5 underpowered and input welcome thanks

The 300TDI I had was a slow poke only do 55 but would pull anything
did have an awful big turbo on it though. Maybe yours just lost few horses towards the end.

Maybe but unloaded could fly down the motorway at 70, all the horses are dead now though

Welcome had a 300tdi twas a solid engine Search the bay of e for another

If you’ve blown it, it probably wasn’t in the best of health beforehand. A 30tdi in a disco should easily handle 70mph, well known for towing or hard use and generally considered the tough engine to go for. If you want better it may be worthwhile buying a td5 disco or even a D3/4.
