Hi guys well this may well be dragging up an old thread so if i am i'm sorry. Are landy has never missed abeat engine wise till tonight. My better half rang me up to say that the car had cut out and won't start. Just before it did this it lost all power. Anyway it did restart but idled roughly for a couple of seconds. Now at this point i should tell you that its had a push button starter fitted, so the key turn on the igntion but does.t start it. There is a rocker switch that is conected to the fuel stop solinoid, then the push button to spin the starter. The car started alot better when the igntion was switch off. Turn it back on rough idle on start up again. Also am i right in thinking that my 300 tdi being a 1994(m reg) doesn't have the spider fitted. Lastly and may have nothing to do with it,but when you take your foot of the go go pedal just before it hits idle speed again there is a single tick/click,but doesn't do it all the time.
cheers in advance guys and girls
alex

A loose wire on the starter from the ignition

dirty electrical connection to the fuel cut-off solenoid

the injector pump solenoid, it gets 12volts
when the ignition is on which pulls the solenoid plunger out of the
fuel supply and allows the fuel to flow. Turning off the ignition
drops the plunger causing the engine to stop through fuel starvation

Possible air leak into fuel lines. Start by having a look at the condition of the elbows on top of the fuel sender unit int the tank. They corrode and perforate letting in air.

Very hard to properly diagnose a problem when someone's been in and modified stuff ... I'd follow the modified wiring, check it's earths, fuses and connections/relays and make sure all the circuits actually work properly.

Only when the circuits are actually found to be complete robust circuits would I check fuel lines, pump, filter etc etc .. ;)

had a good look today and took some pictures, checked the fuel system and all is fine filter clean and clear, and sed clean and clear.
picture 1 show two yellow wires from to the battery + and the other goes to the fuel pump.

pic 2 show one yellow wire going to somewhere behind the turbo.

And lastly checked the boost hoses, bottom one is metal and the top also metal, with two rubber joints. Took these off on the top from the inlet and found this:

There was also oil running back down into the intercooler. Have cleaned the i c out about a month ago. along with new air filter and diesel filter.
cheers alex

its blanked off the plate is inbetween the egr and the return pipe that goes back to the intake. Took the outlet pipe off the turbo put a sheet of white paper in front of the outlet whilst running and got oil spatter on it. checked for play on the turbine (whilst engine was not running) and there does seem to be some play on the turbine shaft. so i guess a new turbo is on the cards.

no worries your not the first lol yeah tell me about it. thing is when i checked the turbo, this morning its worse than the inlet. new turbo time.
