Well finally got back to doing my engine. This what i found after getting the crank pully off.

Now it looks like the woodruff key as been welded in to repair some damage. Is this going to cause problems with the strip down, as the rest of the crank seems in fine fettle?

Simon

Well it didnt. Managed to get it all striped down to bare block this afternoon, and cleaned bits in the parts washer or if they were small enough the ultra sonic cleaner. Hopefully i will find somewhere suitable to degreese & pressure wash it down, where the wife wont moan about mess. Then its paint the block and start to rebuild with nice clean parts.

Jeez, not seen that before. I always thought the point of a woodruff key was that under extreme pressure they break and can be replaced .. be a bit hard to replace one that's welded in!!

key is just a cheap way of securing two parts ,rear key is the most important ,as long as front pulley has something to lock against and cant chatter it will be okay
