Try to get a flat-bladed knife between the water pump and the main block, to ease it off.

Thanks ,will try tommorow.I think someone has stuck it on without the gasket. I didn,t want to wack it to hard incase I broke something.Nothing goes straight forward for me :D

the beauty of land rover is they was designed by engineers - you know fellas ( and lasses) who understand that sometimes in life you need to vent a little bit of rage.

though having a bastid big hide mallet is a bonus

I managed to get the old pump off today ! I put an edge on an old wood chisel and gave it several good wacks .It didn,t want to come off but eventually it moved. All back on now.I used one of those grip tools for opening stuck jar lids on the pulleys to hold them still while I removed and replaced them.It worked a treat.:)Just got to fill up coolant now. Do I just remove the bottom hose on the rad to drain system or do I have to remove the plug on the block as well ?

I use a gator grip (rubber strap wrench) for that too!

If you just want to refill the system there's no need to drain the rad etc. just top up from the remaining level

I was just going to top it up but the guy I bought the anti-freeze of said your not supposed to mix different types together. Its just basic old fashioned anti-freeze ?

don't mix 2 different colours of anti freeze together, if you have a different colour loosen the bottom rad hose and let it drain for a couple of mins, then fill the header tank upto the level and replace the cap!
then fill the rad and replace the cap!
then fill the top thermo housing untill its full.
warm it up and check all levels again when it's cooled down, and top up if needed

just a thought!
you did replace the P gasket didn't you?
coz when i did mine i didn't and ended up redoing it 2 months after

Do you mean the gasket that goes between the pump and the mating surface ?.If so , yes. I just smeared some silicone gasket on first.
