Hi, Can somebody please help me?

I have a 1984 RRC 3.5 V8 Vogue. I am toying with the idea of changing the auto box to a manual, possibly a R380.

Has anybody done this before? any tips, horror stories, smooth running stories?

The RR is still intact and working, as much as a RRC does work anyway!! ;) so need some info before I get the spanners out :mil56:

easy..just get all the bits first..and be prepared to mod transtunnel or even replace.

oh..you will need a different ratio transferbox too..your 1:1 on the torqueflight will be too tall for your punney 3.5l..
make sure you get an r380 outa v8 too..not a diesel cos if i remember right different input shaft lenghts..

best if you sourse the whole lot outa complete car rather than shopping seperate..

ie,flywheel, clutch components, slave and master cylinder, pedal box, trans tunnel, (props??) etc..

not a lot of difference in either box ,v8 boxes are best oil cooled ,all r380s have provision ,not all lt77s do ,rrc lt77 when first used was a long stick box like a defender box

that 3 speed auto is the toughest production car auto box ever built (although nothing lasts forever) why are you getting rid?

The main reason is that I don't like auto's, It also clunks into gear and is not the smoothest change.

The bloke that I bought it off was a gear box engineer and said that there is something inside that needs tightening:confused:

If you want the 3 speed I will sell it or swap it when the time comes.

I might I have to take you up on that , would be worth having on the shelf for future projects. its probably the bands that need tightening?

it will be the input gear into transfer box ..it has an adapter from output of gearbox to input of transferbox,,they wear and clunck.

you will not find a 3.5 with a r380 on it..only lt77

i would go for a good old lt77, you wont kill it.(i have one behind a 6 pot turbo diesl running 2 bar boost and lpg..very under rated box..) .and £50 all day long..
