hello guys,

i found a range rover classic 1991 three doors, with no engine, gear box and differentials for 500 euros.

it used to be a 3.9 efi auto.....

i will either convert it to a 3.5 carbs or a 200tdi

should i buy it??

if yes which engine should i put into it? which one is easier???

DO NOT CONVERT........

Fit an original 3.9 back in it.....do a good job on its resto....and you my friend are looking at a CSK....a rare Classic and worth a bit.....

I take it, it is black and has CSK on the side....??

i guess it quite hard to find a 3.9 in greece... the owner just sold the engine gearbox and differentials...
ill try to find some other ones however

is this car worth 500euros?

thanks

Is it worth 500e.....

I should coco...this one is up for just under £40k

They only made 200....

And they are getting rarer....if you can get a 3.9 and running gear, get it in a good shape and your 500e will be a **** in the ocean to what it is worth......bearing in mind it is a genuine CSK model....do your research first!

no its dark blue unfortunately
The 2 door model was stopped in 1984 in the UK.....although overseas it did continue in limited numbers.....so it may not be a CSK if it is not black, with the coach line and with CSK on the side....I'd check the chassis number and have a good look over it for any signs it was a CSK but the previous owner has ruined it with a respray!

If it isn't a CSK, and it is lacking engine and running gear, 500e is worth a punt, but be warned, Classics rust like heck....being in a dry country like Greece may help, but still check.

If it is not a CSK, then the 3.5 Carb is a good motor but thirsty.....the 200Tdi is a bit agricultural for a stately Range Rover...but depends on what you want it for.....Daily driving - go for 3.5 as the 200Tdi will be a bit sluggish and noisey, Having fun 200Tdi (simple and water proof!)....hooning about - the V8.....plodding and tinkering...200...the choice is yours!

thank you very much my friend for the info

Greek road tax on a V8 will be a definite consideration - they don't like big engines. I had to pay an arm and a leg for my P38 diesel when I lived there.

no it will be registered as a historic vehicle costing 35 euros per/year... when it hits 30 years old
normal plates cost for this jeep is about 1400 euros per year

Engine wise only, if it was here in France I would put a 200Tdi in it, there really isnt that much difference between a std 3.5 and a sorted (tuned fip) 200, except the exhaust note. I have had 4 V8s and loved them all but here the distances are always greater than in the UK and fuel consumption is a consideration.
I'm trying to sell an old V8 Disco which has more or less rotted away, to replace it I have paid silly money for a 1988 VM diesel RRC with NO rust.

You'll not make your money back on it.

It is in a sorry state, the cost of the parts means you will never get your money back on it if you are looking to do it up and sell it on.

If it was a labour of love and you were doing it for yourself then it might be worth a go, but if you are looking to sell on for a profit, best walk away from it.

Oh, and they are NOT jeeps......

to be honest im not looking to resell.
i found a 1989 five door range with 2000 euros fully complete

i dont know it a big dilemma

A decent clean might make the world of difference. A lot of paint damage, whilst not good is on the ali bits. What's underneath like, if that's OK I'd go for it as long as you had time and space to work on it for a bit.
