Hi,do any of you with a 3 door remove the hardtop during better weather?? are they known for leaking water???
Reason i ask is cos i just sold my v8 disco to buy a freelander and wanted a 3 door so i could have some summer fun, however i was waiting for the right one and a nice 5 door came up for sale locally so i went for that and it is nice but it niggles me all the time cos i had my heart set on taking the roof off(HAD A SERIES LANDY SOFT TOP AND LOVED IT)
Its got to the point now that im prob gonna sell mine to get a 3 door now but you no what its like you always have doubt or as missus puts it "theres nothing wrong with the 1 you got"
Any thoughts please????

i gpt a 3door comercial td4 we take top of for night shootinging in summer np but if u want to go topless get a jag

I'd love my freeby to be a 3 door so i could take the top off in the summer, wearing me shades an all. But i'd be afraid of looking a bit gay so i'm sticking with my 5 door station wagon.

I think the 3 door does look cool and sporty, but yeah, it does look a bit gay too imo.

I've not been in one, but even with the top down, you're not really exposed. I question whether or not you'd get the same sort of exposed feeling that you get when driving a normal convertible.

The station wagon is also more practical if you ever take along more than one passenger. I started driving in a 3 door Fiesta, and that was a real pain in the ass!

its probably not relevant to the argument at all :p

but the 3 door soft/hardtop freelander is the perfect camera chase car (for those people who can't afford a rangie)

take out the rear bench, fit a seat for the cameraman. Bosh its done. As we run quite small teams, cameraman, director and driver the 3 door is fine for us.

its just that spare wheel brake light that gets in the way :(

Get a soft top, its not quite the full convertible experience but light and airy, more so for peeps in the back, even better with both targa panels removed,

Jerry McGovern who designed the FL1 (now head of LR design) always said he made the 5dr look too bland :p

Don't think I would take the chance on giving up a known good Freelander for what might possibly end up being a total money pit just because you can't take the roof off two or three weeks a year. Although I've got a 3 door I don't ever plan to remove the roof as I have heard some people have found them to leak water when they've tried to put them back on in autumn.

My missus has a 3 door hardback, took the roof off yesterday for the first time, she has roofbars so i thought it'd be a nightmare but it was easy as anything!

With the roof off and the sunrooves popped out it makes it a different car!

I'm now sat at work looking at this thread wondering whether to buy a second K series 3 door freelander just so i can have one of each and another engine to work on for fun.

My mind is over active at times.

They shouldn't leak Chromium, give the seal a good clean with rubber seal cleaner and the flange on the rear quarter panel a good polish,

get it off, you know you want to!!

Who cares if we only get a few weeks of sun, worth it.

Beats being in a sweat box Defender, sitting in traffic.
Look at the tomb raider FL1, Lara Croft had more b@lls then the pretender tractor boys.

Some other good pics from FL1 brochures to wet your appetite, can't see how you peeps think it's gay! :p

You make a good case Northy, no doubt about it.
As for the Pretender, well a motorised wheelbarrow would be an improvement:D
