Hi all
I have a got a replacement timing chain tensioner as mine exploded when the timing change flue out the engine before I got it, should the tensioner be free to move on the piston or should it be incredibly stiff, it is currently the latter.
I had to removed the old sleeve from the piston by heat, and put the new one on by compression in a vice. This can't be right in my opinion. Thanks for your help once again.

The piston on the tensioner should move quite freely. Stiff isn't good (in this case)
 
Thank you I'll see if I can mill it down a bit
Go and have a look at the prices for new parts - I think you might be surprised - not that bad. If I remember rightly these tensions also rely on oil pressure to apply a bit of oomph - kind of makes me think that a bit of fettling on this part isn't ideal...
