no fuel in the tank cos its a v8. Maybe the pick up pipe on the pump is blocked

i'm guessing here as i have a diesel, however if you can find the feed pipe ie the pipe that goes from the pump to engine, pull that off and and switch the ignition on and see if any fuel comes out(have a container to catch the fuel)

i believe there is a plug on the rear chassi rail for the power supply for the pump, i know you said you thought that you could hear the pump, however this connection can become dirty and not make a proper conection

If your going for a genuine parts fuel pump then the sender is part of the unit.

Measures the fuel level in the tank and provides the info to the dash fuel gauge.

Can u not switch from lpg to petrol? On mine it had a little button to switch back to petrol but hold it for 5 secs and it allowed it to start on gas.
