Dieseling effect certainly increases velocity (any hydrocarbon will suffice, oil, wd4- etc) but repeatability isn't there so accuracy suffers

I don't believe so as the skirt is expanded by the compressed air anyway to seat tightly into the lands and grooves of the barrel and is held in shape by the barrel and rifling, it's the quantity of " accelerant" that's variable I think

    +1:cool:

its shot-to-shot pellet speed consistancy that gives accuracy (by repeatable point-of-impact)

a rifle that fires its pellets with a large fps (feet per second) spread will 'shotgun' but one that has a small variance will put pellet on pellet @ distance (wind deflection & pellet wieght depandant)

then look into pellets, maybe dont:confused:

as with a lot of things, Less is more;)

I used to shoot the rats that got into the chickens but to be fair you are better just chucking some poison down the holes, that blue "cheese" stuff works wonders and they die underground so your missus will never see them. If its mice you are probably better using ordinary mouse traps which will kill them instantly with a bit of peanut butter for bait.
Shooting them doesn't always make it quick, I have seen a rat shot with a .22LR HollowPoint and now missing its complete middle (I **** you not) get up and climb over a fence and run away. It obviously eventually died as you can't live without a liver, kidneys, stomach and gut:D They are clever and tenacious little sods.
I also know someone who has a Bren gun complete with all accessories including the anti aircraft tripod. It is Deacc. It is possible to have a live one but you need a Section 5 FAC for one and I don't know anyone who has one of those, the reason for possession needs to be something extraordinary and you can hardly say you need a machine gun for target shooting or huntingo_O
BTW 5 years for illegal possession of a Firearm.:(

That’s a lovely offer but I’ve seen enough rats this year to coax the pied piper out of retirement ;) tbf most of them have felt the cruel sting of a fenn trap round their canister :D

The funny thing about the rules up here is because of the stupid airgun laws anyone now shooting vermin now generally uses a proper .17 or .22 firearm. I can't see how this improved safety.
I never understood the reasons why they introduced the licence laws except as a knee jerk reaction to an incident in Glasgow. However the idiot that did it was already breaking so many laws that I can't see what difference him having a licence or not would have made. All they needed to do was enforce the laws they already had, maybe adding automatic confiscation and destruction of any weapons found in the hands of anybody unsupervised and under 18.

    unfortunately a vote-bringing knee-jerk to some:rolleyes:
shame it's only penalised the honest shooters:(

thought thats what the police are supposed to do?
doesn't work if the cps & courts decide theres little chance of a successfull prosecution & fines rarely work on the type of scum that this is aimed at:mad:

when the licencing happened I travelled to Scotland for a Field Target competition & was interested as well as concerned with the situation north of the border, also there was notices in public toilets saying about airrifle licencing - not what I expected to seeo_O

There were the usual but rare instances of kids shooting at things, very rare but it still happens, that why the age limit was 18.
However the thing that really put the cat among the pigeons was an incident where a drug addled idiot started taking potshots out of his bedroom window at passers by, he ended up fatally wounding a small child. The licence issue became a politically charged issue and the reaction was the airgun licencing laws.
However AFAIK the idiot involved was under 18 and shouldn't have had unsupervised access, he was shooting at folk in the street from a window of his house which is obviously illegal and actually killing someone in these circumstances, particularly a small child, is a bit more than an accident.
The guy was going down anyway and deservedly so but explaining the circumstances above do you think he would have had a licence anyway or the lack of one would have stopped him doing what he did, the guy was obviously a complete moron who was probably high at the time.
I think the under 18 legislation, the fact that he was recklessly endangering folk with a potentially deadly weapon and then killed someone while doing it was enough grounds for a murder charge anyway as there was definitely intent to harm, if not actually kill. Not sure how chucking another possible charge of possession without a licence would have made him think twice before doing what he did.
Dickhead, I ended up selling mine as it wasn't worth while keeping them and getting yet another licence. As I said I now use 22's for the purposes I used to use Air Rifles for which is hardly safer and restricts some uses because of the increased power, even when using subsonic ammo.

Can you tell I am bit annoyed at thiso_O it seems pointless when all that needed to be done was enforce the existing legislation more thoroughly.

    luckily not:eek:

    +1:cool:

and it still needs doing, it's a regular occurance that shooting gets bad press and each time is a step to removing it from law abiding shooters:mad:

Don't get me wrong, I am a strong advocate of Gun licencing. I even believe the handgun ban was justified as target shooting with pistols is a bit of a contradiction in terms and in reality pistols are only really of use as anti personnel devices that are really easy to conceal.
I know some folk who I really, really, really would not like to think have access to firearms so controls are a necessary evil;)
