New to this forum, but need some advice ASAP. Have had a 54 plate Freelander TD4 Auto HSE for the last 4 months (after 7 Defenders, 2 series 3's, Disco 2 and Disco 3 - Disco 3 went last year- damn the recession!!), but MPG is terrible, I know that this has been covered before, but desperately need some help before the fuel costs bankrupt me!!!!

Up to present it has had:

Full service
Air Filter checked and is spot on
EGR removal kit fitted last week
Engine breather/ filter thingy changed with new BMW replacement fitted.
Been on Autologic testbook with no fault show on MAF Filter or anything else.

After all that, I am still only getting 21mpg - this is mainly around town driving.

My local Garage (ex Simmonites mechanic and LR specialist) is at a loss what to do next, so any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Paul

Is this sudden or only after service. I serviced mine recently .... changed the air filter and Coolant Temperature Sensor..........this made a huge difference.....mpg went from
350-60 per tank to 420!!! Sounds like you may a diesel leak.........one of my T's on injectors (return pipe) poped off and I lost a gallon there in no time at all.........but that should be pretty obvious. Not sure about MAF thought the test only showed total failure...so it still could be malfunctioning, try disconnecting it..... Do you get black sooty smoke on accelleration..........hmmm

Been thinking about this one.....how about your tracking or brakes binding........
go on a run for 3 miles or so then leap out of yer wagon and feel all wheels see if any are warmer than others.........this happened on my mk4 golf and i burnt my hand!!! so be carefull. Take care.....

tell him to get it back on testbook and diagnose it and not look for a fault. It gives live data and they can compare that data on all sensors to a chart. if not go to the MG garage just off Manchester road just after the bridge as you are coming out of your own town he is good. 10 mins on his testbook had mine sorted and landrover couldn't or wouldn't.
