Hi all I have a 1990 defender90 200tdi

I think it had around 111bhp if I was to up this up for better mpg and better overall driving everyday what options do I have ? I’ve heard it’s the 300tdi that you can remap . What do people do with the older ones ? Just after a little more power for general driving .
Thanks all

Can't remap the 300 IIRC, could be wrong.

A boot pin is a good addition, you can turn the fueling up "marginally" aswell to add some umph..

They're great engines low down..

more than adequate stock for a defender IMO..

300tdi auto has 'EDC' (flt-by-wire throttle so ecu controlled) so can be remapped, the manual '200' & '300' engines have a mecanical throttle control so need the 'boost-pin' & fueling mods (as Henry_b suggests:cool:)
it is possible to retro-fit the 'EDC' to mecanical engines with the added bonus of the possible addition of electronic Cruise control;) (what I'm intending to add on a 200tdi Disco & Ninety, one day:rolleyes:)

Rich.

also check the boost pipe to the fuel pump, and all the turbo hoses, if you are loosing even a little bit of boost they are a bit gutless.
The boost pipe is the small black pipe that tells the fuel pump to give more fuel when 'on boost' mine was seized and i didnt have much oomph, was like a different machine when i freed it off.

The later 300Tdi autos did indeed have EDC :) - however, #4 injector is a major weakness in the system now, given the fact Bosch stopped making them about 10 years ago, and when the sensor dies, it's about a grand to have an injector specially built ( or it was when mine let go 4 years ago )...

The cruise control fitted to the 300Tdi AT's uses vacuum to hold the throttle pedal in position - moving it as appropriate..... thus, the cruise can be made to work on the "normal" VE FIP too....

IIRC, 200 and 300 FIP's are not interchangeable ... so a 300 EDC FIP will not fit a 200Tdi.

IMHO, the way to tune a 300 is to fit a FWIC, boost pin and ring, and then get it tuned on a rolling road.... mine is reliably at 145Hp, which is fast enough for the chassis/brakes/2 tonne brick combination ;)

The Auto,s also had alightly more power to compensate for the Auto's suck on the HP

123hp and 289nm IIRC

over 11hp and 264nm

Iirc stock 200 in the defender was a mighty 107 bhp, 4bhp down on the disco version, to do with the turbo placement?
