Hi, terribly sorry to jump straight in with a question, but I promise I've been searching both the forum and the internets, to no avail.

Got a a few issues with my recently purchased '91 200Tdi Defender. The priority though; my cousin the mechanic told me to get a new exhaust for the MOT, middle and back pipe. I did just that, purchasing these ones, from Paddocks. At the time I couldn't find a fitting kit, cousin said no problem, he'd source the required bits.

Today he tell's me the mid section won't fit the old front box, so to get a new front box as well, no problem I'll get that from Paddocks also. But then he says he hasn't got a fitting kit, will use bolts from his work (Vauxhall) and manufacture gaskets from cardboard. This worries me. I mean, surely there's rubber involved in there somewhere as well? (I know nothing of the black arts' of mechanics, as you may be able to tell.)

So, the long winded question, where on this little island does one get an all in one fitting kit for the aforementioned exhaust? Many, many thanks if you can help.

There are other concerns, but I shall continue searching prior to annoying you again.

Cheers.

fitting kits  use the old rubbers for your new exhaust etc so you ordered a new back box,and the centre section with two boxs?
gaskets  dont use them just fit it all together some people use greese around the coupling i dont bother as any tiny gaps are filled with soot build up :D

Cheers for the swift reply.

I just assumed there would be a kit, what happens if the rubber bits are of no use?

I asked the cousin if I should get a straight through middle pipe or one with a silencer, he said to get with. I know nothing about mechanics and he's an MOT tester, so I did what he told me to. Are two boxes superfluous then?

um if the rubbers are perished etc ebay there only a few qiud but unless yours are broke you should be able to reuse them, only thing you may need is a few bolts if there not supplied with the pipe

also i have a straight through centre box (replaced my standard land rover double box centre section) and sound no louder wen driving but seems a tiny bit better on fuel and has a bit more wizz to her :D as for mot straight throuh no issues with it, im 100% sure they pass with no boxs fully straight through (well my mates did he may of had a nice tester) :p

Ah, okay, cheers. Like I say I know nothing.

Pity that, I fancied a straight through, for the very benefits you describe. I may know nothing of mechanics but I can spend hours reading the net!

My cousin, although a mechanic since he was 16, now 27, he's only ever worked on Vauxhalls. Apparently it's all done with laptops nowadays. :D
